I purchased second Netgear AC1900 usb Model A7000 adapter for my other laptop (fancy name for and antenna) I was in the process of installing it Murphy's law I screwed up my router settings. I could not get the wifi up and running again.  Being as my 2011 router was long in the tooth I decided to spring for a new one.

The new one is a BE6500 Mod RS200, as usual being an old fart after 20 minutes of pulling hair and making believe I was getting the new unit up an running.  Now yes I have a cell phone but could not down load the touted install app, I did follow a You tube flic that did help a little.  The You Tube flic walked through all but the final steps, problem arose that I needed to be able to read some stuff.  I was working on my tower, for reasons unbeknownst to me all the supplied links were refused as unsafe certificates.  Not to be beaten I got onto my laptop, sure enough it had no issues getting on the sites.  It allowed me to finish the setup from the laptop!!!

Next phase testing!!  The absolute best wifi speed on my laptop prior to this new router was 120 megs, with the new router it is consistently up and around 220-240+ totally freaked me out.  Seeing that made up for the lose of hair getting it setup, it also solidified my faith it Netgear being the best choice in routers this being my forth!

LOL still should be pulling your hair out and figuring out what your internet plan should be getting.

See this post right after you : https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/808251/upload-vs-download-speeds-slic/

As well check if a Firmware Update for it.  Phone is a possible issue with Windows Setup.  Good Luck with it.

EDIT : so what is the difference in your browser setup that you had problems with the Tower but no problems with the laptop. ??

The tower is a 10+ year old Win 7 build with a bunch of security add-ons, it would have been a pain finding and shutting them.  I was super happy finding out that I could finish up the router install on the laptop :)

After much happiness over the great speeds last night I made my morning tea I opened the laptop this AM no wifi, went up and checked router was not displaying all the lights.  Not happy having to get tech support on the phone only to get someone I can't understand.  Today may be a beauty with more hair pulling!

Accidentally dumped my post I spent 20 minutes writing!  Anyway all fixed the laptop which is down stairs now runs at nearly the speed as the tower upstairs.
