Can anyone recommend a simple video editing software for windows?  when i say simple, literally all i use it for is cutting frames out of videos and very occasionally adding a subtitle track.  Freemake used to work great for me but it's too prone to crashes.

I'm looking for a desktop software and don't mind paying for it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

OpenShot is good for making fairly simple edits.  O.S. lets you cut parts out, stick parts together, add titles, add captions, pull in other video clips and stick into timeline where you want them.  O.S. has not been too difficult to learn to use for these simple things. It also allows you to put still-images into your video project.   It should work fine Windows 10 and 11.

I use Adobe Premiere (paid).

(AN internet search with your favorite search engine in your favorite browser will turn up many free and paid options) ;-)

AVIdemux is what you want; I have been using it and it's dead-easy for simple cut and paste editing. It does simple subtitles also. Lots of tuts on it, just web-search.

I downloaded Openshot.  it looks promising except it only plays one side of the audio so i can't hear the dialogue.  i checked to make sure it recognizes my speakers and it does but for some reason i can't get all of the audio to play. Probably something simple that i'm missing.

That looks like a web based subscription.  I'm looking for a standalone desktop software that i can pay for once and use indefinitely.

@flobiwan:

You said you didn't mind paying, but didn't specify "non-subscription". ;-(
Yes, unfortunately, Adobe (and many other software vendors) has been moving for many years to a subscription model.

Good luck with your search - I'm sure the members here will have many recommendations.

Cheers

I guess i didn't.  Fair point.  I also neglected to add that i'm looking for something where i can go through  video frame by frame (as opposed to just moving a slider).    The ones i've liked in the past, i could move a slider to the basic position and then click through frame by frame to select start and end points for the clip to remove  Freemake worked great but it keeps crashing.  I also love an old software called VideoReDo  but it only works for DVDs.

Found it!  TMPGenc Smart Renderer 6.  Exactly what  i was looking for!  Allows me to make cuts by individual frames and has controls very similar to VideoReDo but can edit a variety of video files.  I just edited my first video and it worked beautifully.
