I would recommend using VMware Workstation Pro because it is a superior Virtual machine.

As such, you can read about VMware Workstation Pro: Now Available Free for Personal Use.

Then you can register for free with Broadcom, and once you are signed in, you can download it from here.

There is a Tutorial on How to Use VMware Workstation.

Good luck! :)

VMware Workstation Pro never enough simple info.  Do you need to make a new VMware after each reboot ?  Want something if exists to be there after booting with OS and Program Files intact.

Uh who told you that?

VMs in vmware are treated just as bare metal installations and act as independent desktop computers.

The fact a tutorial doesn't exist is because there are many types of software for creating Virtual Machines.

Note the VMware Workstation Pro is now Free.  |   There is no Fact !        No Constructive information !      Argument for sake of same.

(EDIT @Dan please do not reply to topics I start)

So would it be hard to put a over view of these VM systems from a User that knows the difference between these  various ones.

Such as these (make list) are installed to use during a Session and are then Deleted upon Exit and or Restart.

The requirements for these (make listed) are :

These ones can be used and are available at boot (Make a list)

Requirements for these are (make a list).

There should be among the Active Members on BC with the knowledge of the Topic be able to do this and actually make this Forum : Virtual Machines and VM Programs

more useful with Pinned Information.

Not 18that I can see.  Some cost money and no simple info that you would expect in a program description.

They all act like we are suppose to jump right on in with no manual.

By referring to the already linked article on the 18 Best Virtual Machine Software Reviewed in 2025:

You can click on the "Show More (5)" link to see 5 more Virtual Machines in the shortlist, thus showing NOT just 5 options, but 10 options.

You can also click on the "Table of Contents" link, and you can even click on the Other Virtual Machine Software link to see 8 more Virtual Machines, thus showing 18 options.

Good luck! :)

I have used VMWare since 2011 when I got enrolled in school and earned my Bachelors Degree in Computer and Digital Forensics, so I think I am well aware of how VMWare Functions. In fact, I have All Windows versions dated back to Windows 3.11 installed along with various open source operating systems installed in VMWare Workstation Pro and get this I have installed many applications and get this you guessed the changes Stuck as if I was using a bare metal machine.

Using VMWare is very easy.

Free Virtual Machine (Hypervisors) are below
VMWare Workstation Pro
VMWare Player
VMWare Fusion (Macintosh)
VirtualBox
QEMU/KVM - Linux

Enterprise paid for
VMWare vSphere - used in the enterprise which allows you to launch a VM aka VDI System where you login and it creates a new VDI per user discussion with the option to have persistent sessions across the network where you login to another thin client or web session and it logs you off an existing one but allowing you to continue where you left off at another cubicle or building as if you never left you original seat. This type of setup doesn't allow you to save directly to your VDI Session, so you will need access to a storage system on your network for your files.

ESXi is Free and use in the enterprise but there fees for using Windows or Mac

Proxmox Free Enterprise Virtual Environment like VMWare vSphere

All of the above has multiple configuration options.
